Create a Table of Contents Using Anchors (Text Tutorial)

Creating an Anchor LinkYou can easily add a Table of Contents to a Canvas email through the use of anchor tags and links.  A Table of Contents can make it easier for your readers to find the content that interests them, particularly if your email is long or has several sections.  Here’s how to do it:

Creating an Anchor

  1. Choose where in the email you want to place your anchor.  In front of the title to an individual section is usually a good spot
  2. Click the Insert / Edit Anchor button in the top row of the toolbar.  This will open the Insert Anchor dialog box
  3. Enter a name for your Anchor within the provided field.  The name should be all one word
  4. Click Insert.  You’ll now see an Anchor in the spot you’ve chosen.  Your recipients will not see this anchor in the actual email

Linking to an Anchor

Once the anchor is in place, you can link to it.

  1. Choose the text or image you’d like to use as the link
  2. Click the Insert / Edit Link button in the top row of the toolbar.  This will open the Insert Hyperlink dialog box
  3. Use the Anchors drop-down menu to select the name of an Anchor you’ve created
  4. Click the Insert button.  This link now links directly to an anchor in your message.  Use the Canvas’ Quick Preview tab to test it

You can create as many anchors, and links to those anchors, as you want.  So you can use bullet points to create a Table of Contents somewhere at the top of your message and then link each bullet point to a specific anchor within your email.
