Advanced Reporting and Analytics

In addition to the standard reporting, we also provide advanced (but still completely free) reporting that must be activated before you can access it.  These more advanced options can be found within the Accounts menu under Analytics Settings.

Google Analytics Integration

The Google Analytics Integration tracks the traffic your emails are generating for your website.  VerticalResponse Email is noted as a source of traffic so you can compare your emails to other traffic sources (like ads and web searches). This information is directly available from within your Google Analytics account.  You can also access a list of everyone who came to your site via an email, how long they were there and how many pages they visited by going to the Ad Versions section of Google Analytics.  To activate the integration:

  1. Go to Account > Analytics Settings
  2. Select the Google Analytics tab (this should be selected by default).
  3. Enter the domains of the websites you're tracking with Google Analytics.  Note that we do not need to know every web page you're tracking - just the domain itself.
  4. Click Save Domains.

The integration is now active, and you'll start seeing VerticalResponse Email as a source of traffic to your site and a list of all the visitors to your website.  This is not retroactive, so you'll only see this information moving forward, you will not see info for past emails within Google Analytics.  There is also a Google Analytics box that will now appear on the Launch page for each email you send out - this box is where you select which piece of information to use as an identifier for people who visit your site (i.e. email address, first name, etc.).  The selection here will determine how visitors are identified in the above referenced visitor list within Google Analytics under Ad Versions.

If you're not currently using Google Analytics, but are interested in doing so, check it out here.  It's a free and fairly powerful way to monitor traffic on your website.

Click-to-Conversion Tracking

Click-to-Conversion tracking provides more insight into which of your email recipients are taking action with your emails.  Activating this option adds a new statistic to your account called Conversions, which works in much the same way as Opens and Clicks.  We provide you with tracking code that you add to a page (or pages) on your website.  If someone clicks a link in your email and makes their way to a page that includes this code, then they are tracked in your account as a conversion.

To provide an example of how you might use this - if the point of your email was to drive subscribers to sign-up for an event, you could add the code snippet to the “thank you for signing up” page that is viewed by everyone who completes the event registration process. In this way, everyone who signs up for the event would be counted in your reporting data as a conversion.

To activate this tracking:

  1. Go to Account > Analytics Settings
  2. Select the Click-to-Conversion tab.
  3. Choose Click-to-Conversion from the Enable drop-down menu.
  4. Click Submit Changes.  Do not miss this step as it's necessary to fully activate Click-to-Conversion.
  5. Copy the snippet of HTML code we provide and add it to any page on your website you want to use for tracking conversions.  If you're not sure where to add it, just put it right above the closing body tag (</body>) in your HTML.  If you don't design your own site, provide this snippet to your designer.
